Watercooled high power alum heatsink with copper tubing
Watercooled aluminum heatsink with embedded copper tubing for cooling water. The dimensions of the aluminum are 18 inches long by 8 inches wide with side fins 1.5 inches high. The aluminum mounting surface is 0.25 inch thick. Overall length including copper loops is 24 inches and the copper stubs for water connection are 3.5 inches long, the OD is 3/8 and the ID is 5/16. The copper tubes are on 2 inch centerlines and the clear space between tubes on the back side is 1.25 inches. These are NOS and were custom made for the application. Having these made today would be very expensive. They are suitable for any very high power devices; for stud mount devices drill large holes between copper tubes and for hockey puck or flat pack devices only small mounting screw holes need to be drilled between the tubes. These heatsinks were used for cooling six (6) power SCRs on a 1000 amp 40 Kilowatt power supply used for very high speed arc welding. The heat dissipation capacity and thermal resistance depends upon the water flow rate. We do not have the thermal coefficients or flow rate graphs for this design. We have a quantity of these available.
