These items are brand new MPSW42 transistors, manufactured by Motorola. These transistors are exactly like the well known MPSA42 transistors, but feature a full 1 Watt maximum power dissipation (instead of the 0.625 Watts for the MPSA42's). They are NPN 300 Volt (V(BR) CEO); 0.5 A. collector current rating, 1W maximum power dissipation - packaged in a TO-92 plastic package.
The "MP" part (in these MPSW42 transistors) stands for "Motorola Preferred." Preferred devices are Motorola recommended choices for future use and best overall value (according to the data sheet). The "S" stands for small signal type. and the "W" stands for these special higher wattage type 42 Motorola preferred transistors.
